Turn Biotechnologies is currently seeking a qualified, highly motivated individual for the position of Scientist I, II or III – Ophthalmology.

Position Summary

We are seeking a talented and motivated Scientist to join our Ophthalmology team. The successful candidate will contribute to the discovery and development of novel therapies for eye diseases. This role involves conducting preclinical research, designing and executing experiments, analyzing data, and collaborating with cross-functional teams.

COMPANY

Based in Mountain View, California, Turn Biotechnologies, Inc. is a development-stage company focused on restoring cells’ youthful vigor to repair damage caused by the aging process. Using a proprietary ERA™ Platform, we develop mRNA medicines that are specially formulated to instruct specific cells in the body to fight disease or repair damaged tissue. We do this by reprogramming the epigenome to restore cell function that people often lose as they age. This approach can be used to revitalize different cells throughout the body. We are researching its applicability across multiple therapeutic areas, including dermatology, ophthalmology, osteocartilage, and skeletal muscular indications.

Responsibilities:

Essential duties include but are not limited to:

  • Design, plan, and execute experiments to support ophthalmology research projects.

  • Conduct in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo studies to evaluate therapeutic candidates for eye diseases.

  • Independently analyze data, interpret results, draw conclusions, and present findings to internal team(s) and external collaborators.

  • Help manage experimental timelines and coordinate cross-functional efforts between team members.

  • Collaborate effectively and prepare recommendations as a member of a multidisciplinary team to advance both company and project goals.

  • Maintain a deep knowledge of scientific literature and advancements in ophthalmology research, particularly related to cell and gene therapy.

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant safety, quality, and ethical standards.

  • Organize data, maintain detailed records, and effectively communicate results

  • Develop, validate, and write laboratory protocols and technical reports

  • Contribute to the preparation of scientific manuscripts, patents, and regulatory documents.

Qualifications

  • Education / Experience

    • Ph.D. in Ophthalmology, Pharmacology, Cellular Biology, Molecular Biology, or a related field. Alternatively, a master’s degree with 2+ years of relevant experience in ophthalmology research.

    • Strong background in eye biology, disease mechanisms, and therapeutic approaches.

    • Strong hands-on experience working with in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo models of eye diseases.

    • Proficiency in molecular and cellular biology techniques (e.g., PCR, Western blot, ELISA, immunohistochemistry).

    • Familiarity with imaging techniques (e.g., OCT, fundus photography) is a plus.

    • Previous research focus has been on advancing ocular translational research and applications

    • Experience developing and enhancing molecular understanding of cellular repair and regeneration in inflammation and age associated degenerative diseases.

    • Excellent data analysis skills and proficiency in software tools such as GraphPad, Prism, or similar.

    • Strong communication skills with the ability to present complex data to diverse audiences.

    • Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative team environment.

    • High level of motivation, attention to detail, and a commitment to scientific excellence.

  • Preferred Qualifications

    • Previous industry experience in ophthalmology or drug development.

    • Experience working with mRNA and lipid nanoparticles

    • Experience with CRISPR/Cas9, gene therapy, or other advanced therapeutic modalities.

    • Experience with Flow Cytometry / FACS is a plus.

    • Track record of scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals.

    • Previous experience in cell and molecular biology of aging and diseases in other tissue systems such as: skin, the immune system, lung, osteoarthritis cartilage, and ocular inflammatory diseases.
