Turn Biotechnologies is seeking a qualified, highly motivated individual for the position of Senior Scientist - Technology.

The employee will be a highly motivated and innovative individual responsible for the scientific/technical aspects of new technology development, including new target identification, design of custom solutions, synthesis techniques – particularly DNA and mRNA based, in vitro/ex vivo testing, molecular techniques and bioanalytical assays and data analyses. The position’s primary purpose is to assist the development team with planning and execution of technology optimization and initial testing in in vitro and in vivo contexts.

Based in Mountain View, California, Turn Biotechnologies, Inc. is a development-stage company focused on restoring cells’ youthful vigor to repair damage caused by the aging process. Using a proprietary ERA™ Platform, we develop mRNA medicines that are specially formulated to instruct specific cells in the body to fight disease or repair damaged tissue. We do this by reprogramming the epigenome to restore cell function that people often lose as they age. This approach can be used to revitalize different cells throughout the body. We are researching its applicability across multiple therapeutic areas, including dermatologic conditions, pulmonary disease, osteoarthritis and ophthalmology.

Responsibilities:

Essential duties include but are not limited to:

  • Hands-on execution of technology design and development, process optimization and running preliminary evaluation of new solutions in cell and animal models.

  • Collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team to achieve Company’s timelines and milestones.

  • Developing, validating and writing SOPs and technical reports.

  • Organizing data, maintaining records and communicating results.

  • Initiating, organizing and presenting in technical meetings.

  • Acquiring knowledge and understanding of GLP/OECD regulations and the ability to apply them daily.

  • Additional assignments related to regulatory and/or clinical development, as needed.

Qualifications

  • Innovative thinker - able to come up with new solutions in a timely manner and optimize effectively as required.

  • Interested in and able to pick up new techniques.

  • Demonstrated track record of hands-on experience with technology design and evaluation.

  • Able to pitch new ideas and execute on them.

  • Experience with standard gene therapy techniques: construct design and optimization, cloning, viral production (optional).

  • Experience with standard evaluation techniques: histology and immunostaining, qPCR, imaging, blotting.

  • Candidates must be able to follow written protocols, record observations in written or electronic form, and efficiently manage their time to support multiple ongoing studies.

  • The ability to work independently, as well as work effectively with team members to accomplish goals.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proficiency with tissue culture work, including cell culture and processing, isolation by flow cytometry (optional), transwell and organoid culture (optional).

  • Experience with mRNA synthesis work, including design, in vitro transcription and characterization, is preferred.

  • Proficiency with animal work, including handling, injections, blood and tissue extraction and processing, is preferred.

  • Expertise in dermatological applications is favored.

Education/Experience

  • B.S. in molecular and cellular biology, bioengineering or related discipline.

  • 5-7 years of experience, in academic or industry research and development. At least 1 year of corporate experience in documentation and formalizing protocols.

  • Google Suite and/or MSOffice skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
